Welcome Message to Bahrain in the DCOC/JA

On behalf of Signatory States to the Djibouti Code of Conduct, the Republic of South Africa as Chair to its Steering Committee is delighted to extend a warm welcome to the Kingdom of Bahrain as it officially joins the signatories of the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct (DCoC-JA).

On March 6th, the Ambassador of Bahrain to the United Kingdom, H.E. Mr. Shaikh Fawaz Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, deposited the instrument of accession with IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez at IMO Headquarters in London. This signifies Bahrain’s commitment to combat piracy, armed robbery against ships, and other illicit maritime activities in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden.

By becoming the 18th Signatory State, Bahrain joins a coalition dedicated to the development of a common regional maritime security strategy. Together, we aim to foster a robust information-sharing network and strengthen capacity-building programs across various thematic areas, from combating human trafficking to enhancing port and ship security.

We commend Bahrain’s dedication to maritime security and look forward to its valuable contributions within the DCoC-JA framework. Together, we stand united in our commitment to safeguarding the seas and promoting prosperity in the Western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden.
