EU becomes Friend of Djibouti Code of Conduct

The European Union is set to join the Djibouti Code of Conduct and its Jeddah Amendment as a Friend (i.e observer), following a formal approval of their invitation, by Signatory countries of the Code through its Secretariat.

In a press statement issued on 22 April 2024, the EU has affirmed its strong support to the DCoC/JA aimed at enhancing the region’s maritime security architecture, while fortifying its presence and engagement as a global maritime security provider in the fight against piracy and other crimes committed at sea.

EU capacity building missions and programmes such as EUNAVFOR ATALANTA (since 2008) have promoted cooperation in countries along the western Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden, and contributed to the enhancement of capacity to counter increasing threats to maritime security in the region.
