DCoC States and Partners Celebrate Women’s Inclusion and Leadership in the Maritime Sector
Several countries party to the Jeddah Amendment to the Djibouti Code of Conduct led their maritime agencies in celebrating the International Day of #WomenInMaritime this past weekend (18 May 2024).
Ms. Kiran Shamloll, the Secretary for Shipping Development at the Ministry of Blue Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries & Shipping (Mauritius), featured prominently in a series of clips recorded to highlight the joys and challenges of being a woman in the maritime industry, and showcased the solutions women can employ to overcome maritime challenges in Africa and beyond.
Ms. Kiran, a dedicated member of the DCoC/JA and a maritime administrator for over two decades, also serves as a passionate advocate for women’s involvement in maritime security affairs. As the first female trailblazer in the shipping sector in Mauritius, she has been actively encouraging more women to take on roles in seafaring, port management, and maritime law to boost female participation in the region.
